Support me?
- Social activities and groups for adults including walking group, tech support, over 18s groups, art and craft, steel band, luncheon club and trips out, with groups catering for the specific needs of sign language users, people who are hard of hearing and people with sight loss.
- Weekly Youth Club where all activities are fully inclusive for sign language users and young people with little or no sight.
- A not-for-profit equipment resource centre, selling equipment to aid independence like talking watches, clocks and kitchen gadgets, amplified phones, large print items and magnifiers.
- Qualified advocacy support people with sight or hearing loss including British Sign Language users
- Accessible information services – information and support in British Sign Language, large print, audio formats and braille.
- Support for anyone experiencing practical or other difficulties because of their sight or hearing loss, including help with translation and phone calls.
- Counselling service for people with a sight loss and group emotional support
- British Sign Language (BSL) training – Level One and Two (Signature), short Introduction to BSL course and tailored BSL courses for organisation
- Half day courses for people with sight and/or hearing loss – Making the most of your hearing and Making the most of what you can see
- Lip-reading course (occasional series)

We can help you make important calls, such as booking appointments.

Struggling to cope with sight loss?
Free Counselling Service for People with Sight Loss
- Counselling can help you to come to a clearer understanding of your own feelings and can help you adjust to the emotional impact of your sight loss. It’s a time to concentrate on yourself and talk things over with someone who will understand your perspective
- At your first appointment you will meet one to one with an experienced counsellor, who understands the issues that sight loss brings, to talk about your personal situation and decide whether counselling will be helpful for you
- You can refer yourself to the service or ask a family member or healthcare professional to refer you
- The service which is based at Walthew House in Stockport is open to anyone in the region
- The service is free of charge
- Walthew House is an independent local charity providing practical and emotional support to people with a sight or hearing loss.
