Activities and Classes

We have a weekly timetable of regular events, we also run workshops at certain times in the year and there are annual events.

Weekly Activities at Walthew House


Monday

The centre opens at 9.30am, activities from 10.30am onwards

Activities:

  • Social Drop-in Day
  • Craft group
  • Chair based exercise
  • Hand bell ringing

The cost to attend will be £1.00, including tea, coffee and biscuits.  At lunchtime we will be making bacon sandwiches, sausage sandwiches and a vegetarian option, which members will be able to purchase, as well as crisps and other snacks.   

The Resource Centre will be open by appointment only from 10.00am to 2.30pm. 


Tuesday

The centre opens at 9.30am, activities from 10.30am onwards

Activities:

  • Social group with entertainment 
  • Luncheon club 
  • Steel band 

The Sensory Sports and Social Club's Walking Group is at the Stockport Harriers track at Woodbank Park.

Fortnightly, In the afternoon (2pm) we host a Hard of Hearing Social Group - Activities include Crafts, social chat, bingo, puzzles and a canal boat trip.  Subs are £1 per session and include drinks and biscuits.

Monthly Book Club.

The Resource Centre will be open by appointment only from 10.00am to 2.30pm.


Wednesday

Activities from 5.45pm onwards

Singing Day

Signed choir 5.45pm – 6.45pm, open to all, no past BSL experience required.

Stockport Talking Newspaper records weekly.  

BSL Level 1 course 7pm - 9pm.

The Resource Centre will be open by appointment only from 10.00am to 2.30pm.


Thursday

The centre opens at 9.30am, activities from 10.30am onwards

Group Day

The Deaf Centre Social Group meet from 10:00am. 

Introduction to BSL Course 10am - Midday.

Assistive Technology Support Drop in - last Thursday of the Month 1 – 3pm

BSL Level 2 course 7pm - 9pm.


Friday

The centre opens at 6pm

Evening Clubs

Walthew House is closed during the day, but you can still contact the office by phone or email with any enquiries.

Activities in the Community

Sensory Sports and Social Club holds regular activities and events such as Tenpin bowling and the Tues Walking Group at the Stockport Harriers track at Woodbank Park.

We also have activities that take place throughout the year like the See Hear event, The Easter fair and the planting party! You can find more information about these below and on our social media feed.

Special Events

Planting Party
This was a fabulous event. Service users chose from a variety of sensory plants and herbs to plant in their own planter. Some chose to take them home and some gave them to friends and family as gifts. Photos show people working alongside volunteers to produce some lovely pots!

Cheese & Wine Evening
Our wine tasting event was a lot of fun.  People enjoyed six different wines, as well as complimentary cheese and crackers. It was a great night out with wine games and quizzes! Photos show a room full of people wine tasting and taking part in the quiz.
