Our Approach:

“No Wrong Door” Support

At Walthew House, we believe nobody should be turned away or left unsure where to go for help. We continue to promote our “no wrong door” approach, ensuring that anyone affected by sight or hearing loss can access the full range of support and information they need.

This approach reflects our core values, which guide everything we do: REST

Adapting flexibly as people’s needs change.

Effective

Focusing on early intervention and outreach.

Providing awareness training and targeted support for people who are often hardest to reach.

Supportive

Empowering people to sustain independence and connection through ongoing one-to-one and group support.

Trusted

Recognised locally and across Greater Manchester as a reliable source of information.

Committed to transparency through annual impact reporting and strong governance.

Real change for people with sight and hearing loss in Stockport

For over 140 years, Walthew House has been at the heart of the Stockport community, supporting people with sight and hearing loss to stay connected, independent and confident.

Every week, we see how small moments of support can lead to lasting change: meeting new people, rebuilding confidence, and finding the right help at the right time.

Learning and improvement

We know that lasting change comes from listening.

Every project at Walthew House includes built-in feedback and reflection, so the people we support shape what happens next.

Through regular surveys, group discussions and co-production sessions, we use what we learn to improve — from adapting communication formats to adjusting group activities and developing staff training for local services.
