INFORMATION BULLETIN – COVID-19

  • The Government is now providing support for clinically extremely vulnerable people where you will receive free food boxes containing essential supplies and household items. You can apply online by clicking this link: Government Register or you can telephone: 0800 028 8327. It is free to register if you have a medical condition that makes you vulnerable to the virus and there is a link on the page where you can check if you are eligible to apply.
  • Stockport Council: From Monday 30 March 2020, there will be a new schedule for bin collections due to the effects of coronavirus on the service.
    • Green bins – There will be no green bin collections until further notice. You must put your food waste in your black bin.
    • Black bins – There is no change to your black bin collection and it’ll continue to be emptied every 2 weeks on your normal day. Please put all food waste in your black bin.
    • Blue bins – From Monday 6 April, blue bins will be collected every 4 weeks. We’ll provide more information about this new schedule at the end of next week.
    • Brown bins – There is no change to your brown bin collection and it’ll continue to be emptied every 4 weeks on your normal day.
  • Stockport Council: Closure of household recycling centres: The 3 household recycling centres in Stockport – Adswood Road, Cheadle Hulme; Bredbury Parkway; and Rose Hill, Marple – are now closed with immediate effect.
  • World Health Organisation (WHO). Misinformation is spreading rapidly across social media about the coronavirus. Please visit https://www.who.int/ for full factual and reliable information.
  • St Johns Ambulance advice to first aiders on COVID-19:
    1. If someone is unconscious and not breathing normally do not put your face to theirs
    2. Call for an ambulance
    3. Use a towel or piece of clothing and lay it over the mouth and nose
    4. Do not do mouth to mouth
    5. Start the chest compressions
    6. Use a public access defibrillator if available
  • Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) update:
    • Do not travel unless it is essential – public transport must only be used for trips to work, to get supplies, to care for others or for medical reasons.
    • Train, tram and bus services have been reduced. All our Travelshops, excluding Eccles and Altrincham, have now closed until further notice.
    • If you must travel, please follow social distancing guidelines and keep two metres from your fellow passengers. Please check tfgm.com/coronavirus or operator timetables before travelling.
