INFORMATION BULLETIN – COVID-19

NEW GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS:  You can ONLY leave the house for the following:

  1. Shopping for basic necessities
  2. One form of exercise a day
  3. Any medical need/care for vulnerable person
  4. Traveling to and from work, only if absolutely necessary

ALL SHOPS, PLACES OF WORSHIP, WEDDINGS AND BAPTISMS SHUT AND CANCELLED.

  • As of 24th March, all opticians including low vision clinics have been told to close.  Boots are providing “hubs” where people worried with sight threatening symptoms or general worries about their eyes or aids can telephone. They will be triaged by Boots over the telephone and offered appointments if absolutely urgent. The nearest “hub” to us in on Wellington Road North (Belmont) 0161 442 7570. All other branches are closed.
  • Talking Books are available from Stockport Library via Walthew House.  If you are interested, please contact our office with permission for us to pass on your contact number to a library employee.  You will then be contacted to discuss the books and Walthew House can then arrange for them to be delivered to you by Walthew House staff or volunteers 0161 480 2612.
  • BIN COLLECTION – Following the Government’s advice Stockport Council will continue with essential bin collections but are running at a reduced capacity.  They are currently deciding on a day-to-day basis on which collections to stop.  It is like that green, blue and brown collections will not be as often.  Please put your bins out for collection and if they are not collected they will do their best to collect them the following week. 
  • There is a local support group on Facebook called ‘Stockport COVID-19 Support’ and one of the many helpful things they have done is put together a list of local businesses that are offering delivery.  If you are interested please contact the office for full details. 
  • Although closed for shopping in person, as of 24th March, The Stockport Market are offering a Home Delivery or Park and Collect service.  Deliveries will be on orders worth £10 or more within a 3-mile radius of Stockport Market for £3.00 per delivery.  Cash payments only at this moment.  To place an order either phone 07392646554 or email info@mpml.co.uk with your shopping list.  They will check availability and call you back with a price and collection or delivery slot to suit you.  For full details of delivery and collection please contact on the number or email mentioned above.
