It’s been a busy few months so here’s an update on everything that has been happening here, as well as what exciting things we have planned for the next few months…!

The latest volunteer newsletter can be read below, or click here for a downloadable PDF version.  Thank you for reading.

Stockport Beer and Cider Festival 2022
Thank you so much to the wonderful volunteers who helped at the Stockport Beer and Cider Festival, which took place at Edgeley Park on 16th-18th June.
I am delighted to tell you that we raised £5,931 from the event! Well done everyone, we couldn’t have done it without you! Read more here.

Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club Duck Race
We were pleased to be back at Bramhall Hall this year, and even entered our own decorated ‘BSL Bill’ duck in a race (he didn’t win, but there’s always next year!)
Our steel band delighted audiences with their performances in the sunshine, and the bucket collection and bottle tombola on our stall raised £450 for our charity!Woman playing steel drum.

Stockport County bucket collection
We are very grateful to Stockport County Football Club for agreeing to let us carry out a bucket collection on the first game of the new season, their first game back in the football league after an 11-year absence!
The game on Saturday 30th July kicks off at 3pm against Barrow FC, and we need a group of volunteers who are available prior to the game, during half-time, and then after the final whistle to collect donations.
You will of course be able to sit and watch the game in-between collecting donations! Please let us know if you can help.Group of people holding buckets sat in a football stand.

Stockport Pride event
Stockport Pride 2022 is an opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in Stockport, and it takes place on Sunday 31st July in the historic Market Place. Walthew House has a stall with a bottle tombola, lucky dip and guess the name of the Drag Queen teddy(!), and we need volunteers to be on the stall between the hours of 11am and 6pm. Please let me know if you are available to help.

We need donations of bottles for our stall – if you have any bottles of alcohol, soft drinks, or toiletries please can these be dropped off at Walthew House over the next few weeks?

In addition, we have been invited to walk in the parade which starts outside Red Rock at 11.30am and follows a route through Merseyway up to the Market Place.
If you are interested in joining George and Naomi in the parade, please let George know and we can make sure you have a Walthew House t-shirt to wear!

Christmas Card art and craft session
Yes, I know it is only July and we shouldn’t be talking about the festive season yet(!), but we are looking for a design for this year’s Christmas cards, which will help to raise funds for our charity. We are going to invite our service users to come in and create some designs but would like some volunteers to be able to assist!
This session is taking place on Monday 8th August, from 10am until 12 noon. Please let us know if you are able to help (there may be a mince pie in it for you!)

Emergency Services Day
We have been invited to have a stall at the Emergency Services Day that is being held in St.Peter’s Square on Friday 19th August, from 10am-4pm. This is an opportunity to promote our services to local people, whilst also doing some fundraising, so please let us know if you are able to help on the day.

Volunteer Afternoon Tea
We are organising an afternoon tea to celebrate our wonderful Walthew House volunteers, which will be held here on Friday 18th November. Invitations will follow closer to the date, but please try and keep your diary free!

Bric-a-Brac sales
A huge THANK YOU to regular volunteers Brenda and Ron for managing the weekly bric-a-brac sales here at Walthew House – over the past 3 months, this has generated an amazing £483 in income for our charity!
If anyone has any suitable donations (no clothing please) simply drop them off here or come along and grab a bargain on a Wednesday (not on the last Wednesday of each month), 11.00am-2.30pm.Man and woman stood behind a stall.

Other volunteering opportunities
Other dates we have in our diary that we need volunteers for are as follows:
• Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October – bucket collections between 10am-4pm at ASDA Reddish.
• Saturday 12th November – Walthew House Christmas Fair. We need volunteers to help with refreshments, selling raffle tickets and running our tombola stall, so please let us know if you can help. Please also let any traders you know that tables are available to hire at this event for a fee.

Collection boxes
Thank you to those who have already volunteered to go and exchange counter-top collection boxes for us – it’s a mammoth task when we have almost 90 of them across the borough! If you are able to collect any boxes near to where you live or regularly shop, please let us know and I can give you the letter of authorisation to go along and collect. This is very much appreciated.

John Walthew’s 200th birthday sweepstake
Congratulations to service user Peter who was the winner of the 200-square game to commemorate the 200-year anniversary of the birth of John Walthew!
Thank you to everyone who helped sell the squares, both at the social groups at Walthew House and at various events over the last month or so, which raised £100 for our charity.Smiling man holding framed oil painting.

Volunteer chef needed
We are still looking for a volunteer chef to prepare the main meals for the weekly Luncheon Club here on a Tuesday. If you are interested, or know somebody who would be, please speak to Rachel in the office. Thank you.

Thank you for reading and for your continued support of Walthew House 😊
