Mayoral visit to Walthew House

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Stockport to Walthew House yesterday, so that they could join in with our Tuesday Luncheon Club and steel band practice.

Our visually impaired service users enjoyed talking with our guests over lunch, and everyone listened to a recording made by the Stockport Talking News about our founder John Walthew, who was also a Mayor of Stockport back in the 1870s. You can listen to these interviews on our website here.

The Mayor was able to offer the opportunity for our service users to handle the ceremonial chains, and shared insights into how heavy they were!

Our steel band also performed for the guests, and they were given the chance to play themselves too!

We look forward to welcoming the Mayor to more events in the future.
